By: Mary D'Anza, RDN, CDE The Proviso Partners Giving Garden Summer Internship has nourished a desire to learn about Urban Agriculture all summer long! High School students from the Proviso Township have participated and volunteered over the past 6 weeks to learn about food systems, farming, health advocacy and serving their community by providing fresh and affordable produce. The students have run the weekly farm stand, and also hosted a Garden Fest on July 22. During the garden fest, the students sold produce, offered healthy samples of fruit infused water and tomato and pinto bean salsa, and also worked with volunteer nurses and medical students to educate the community on heart health and check blood pressure. The Urban Agriculture Summer Internship ends on August 12, but we look forward to working with the students during the school year ahead. Art that Heals the Soul By: Gabriel Lara Proviso Partners for Health decided to showcase Gabriel Lara's art for the blog this month. Gabriel is the Director of the Quinn Community Center.
