Over the past several weeks a national coalition of Catholic Latinx leaders and organizations and and partners have begun to form around the crisis at the border and the human rights violations against refugees and asylum seekers. We see this crisis not only as an issue that Hispanic families are facing but as deeply connected to the inhumanities experienced within African American communities and the criminal justice system. In light of the horrific and tragic shootings that took place in El Paso and Dayton on August 3rd and 4th we pray for the victims, their families and the countless people throughout our nation who've been affected by these violent acts that were perpetuated in the name of white supremacy. For us, love and action requires courage, solidarity, honesty and risk. It also requires us to face the demons of our nation’s past and present, to call forth the depths of courage and moral strength within each of us, to work together for a fundamental moral reform that our nation urgently requires, to face our enemies even during the most terrorizing of times and to seek the conversion of their hearts and spirits. We invite you to join us on this journey. CSPL is part of a growing national coalition of Catholic Latinx leaders and partners who are organizing a National Pilgrimage to El Paso, TX for an ecumenical and interfaith action at the border and a weekend of trainings and formation opportunities.
